Class wins for Wayne Poole & Ben Heywood

Summer had begun and with many competitors on holiday the entry was a little lower than in previous races. The WPR team were represented by Wayne Poole (Van Diemen RF89) in the pair of Formula Ford races, Wayne Rushworth (MGzr) in the Saloon Car races and Ben Heywood (Mini Cooper S) in the Hot Hatch races.

Wayne Poole qualified as the fastest Class C car for both races and enjoyed a good scrap with fellow Class competitor, Dave Catanzaro, in Race 1 to emerge a close but satisfied winner - plus fourth overall into the bargain and fastest lap in class! Race 2 followed a similar pattern for another class win and fastest lap.

In the Saloon Car races Wayne Rushworth qualified as fastest Class C competitor for both races but made a poor start in Race 1 and spent the entire race chasing down a couple of other MG ZRs only to finish a few seconds adrift in third. In Race 2 Wayne made a better start and ran mid pack to finish second in Class.

Like his fellow team drivers, Ben Heywood qualified the Mini fastest Class E car for both races and took a pair of class wins and fastest laps to complete a succesful day for the team.
